New Online-based Job Asking for Tax Information?
I applied for a job working online (IT Tech remote assistance) I'm sure that it is legit.. where I use to work their tech services were provided by the same company. To be "certified" as a tech I've passed a few steps and pre crap but now they are asking for a copy of my tax form. Is this the same as a tax return? If so why would a new job want old tax info? Shouldn't THEY be the one to have to get that info if needed? ..I don't want to send them that kind of personal information because it has bank routing information and a bank account number on it. –thanks.
Suggestion:
They either need a Form W-4 if you will be an employee or a W-9 if you will be an independent contractor. They have no need for copies of any of your tax returns, current or past.

can't imagine why they need your tax return, stand your ground, don't furnish it to them
There is absolutely no reason why they would need this info. It sounds like a scam to me.
