It's always helped me to call the places that you put in applications. I usually call 4 or so days after I put in the applications. It's easy to get lost in the shuffle if a place gets tons of applicants, so calling just to check on your application and ensure that they're hiring can be helpful. Also, always be friendly and dress nicely, even if you only go in just to drop off your resume.
